Town of New Shoreham Building Department
The Building Department is responsible to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents, business and property owners by enforcing local building codes and regulations, issuing permits for construction, alterations and repairs, inspecting properties to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and activity, examining construction documents including master plans, issuing Certificates of Occupancy for new properties and Certificates of Completion for modification to existing structures.

New Rhode Island Building Code Energy Requirements effective January 1, 2025.
The new energy code will change how you build houses to accommodate the increased insulation requirements.

Instructions for E-Permitting
On the Discover Online Services page click on Building/Zoning Department Explore tab.
You will now see a list of permit applications.
Select type of permit and click on the blue "Select" button to begin your application.
You will need to sign up by setting up an email and password then login and begin your application. Remember to save your draft so you don't have to start over if you log out.
E-Permitting allows you to submit your application, upload/submit attachments, contact us, receive notification and updates regarding your permit application process, make payments, print your permit and request inspections.
Any work started without the required permit is subject to a $250.00 administrative fee and/or fines as allowed by law.

Search electronically for Building Department records processed after April 12, 2021.
On the E-Permitting Portal Discover Online Services page, click on the Search for Records link and enter the location, address, record number or plat and lot.
Any Building Department records prior to April 12, 2021 can be accessed during office hours.
